We Survived!

It's Friday. The end of a week alone at home with two kids under 16 months old! Well, it was a short week since Jacob only worked 4 days. But it was a good week! Much easier and more fun than I had expected.

How's our week gone??

Well, Faith lost her umbilical cord Saturday night - not sure where it went... but without it, she was able to have her first bath! And she practically slept through it! I think she'll be a bath-love like her big brother has always been!

Nathan, like the rest of us, has been busy and worn out from all the excitement of the week. The other night, while Jacob talked to his parents, Nathan passed out from exhaustion!

In spite of the disrupted nights (which seem to have come to an end! Well... except for one feeding around 3-4am), Nathan has adjusted great to having a new baby sister. He has only thrown a wooden toy at her once. But multiple times a day he tries to gently give her a toy - a giant lego, a toy car, etc. And he loves to sit and watch her in her car seat or bouncy chair. If you look close in the picture below, you'll see the blue & red train car by Faith's left foot, which he gave her to play with while he watched her.

There are moments that Nathan is jealous and wants some cuddle time, too. But for the most part, he adores his baby sister. He makes sure I'm aware when she's crying - by pointing at her. He no longer cries when he sees her with a bottle. And he loves to try to sooth her by giving her the pacifer... except he tries to jam it in her forehead instead of put it in her mouth!

He's also fallen in love with her bouncy seat... he loves to watch the animals move, dance to the music it plays... and yesterday he tried to sit in it too. My hands were full feeding Faith, so I missed the picture of him laying in it. But he listened well and got out so he didn't break it!

Faith did have a weight check today, since she's 2 weeks old now. She is 7 lb, 3.5 oz. That's just shy of her birth weight, so they want us to come back next week so they can record her having reached her birth weight soon. She's right on track, though. The nurse said 1/2 - 1 oz a day of weight gain is normal. She's gained 4.5oz in a week. And based on last night, when she wanted to nurse 20 minutes after she was done, (all evening!), I think she may be starting a growth spurt. She slowed down in her feeding frequency today, thank goodness. :)

Going for a weight check for Faith today was the first time I had both kids out and about on my own. And that was a success, too! Thankfully I was able to make the car seat safely and snuggly fit in the double stroller. And Nathan enjoyed riding it, too.

The doctor's office went so well, that I attempted to stop by Publix & CVS on the way home, too! Publix was a breeze, but Faith had just eaten and we were only going in for a few things - a few new deals I'd seen since my Wednesday night trip. By the way... if you haven't taken advantage of the deals at Publix, Bi-Lo & Walgreens this week, and live by one or more of those stores GO! It's a great week to stock up on 7¢ Betty Crocker potatoes, free tomato sauce, 59¢ Ragu pasta sauce, 17¢ baby food, 40¢ cheerios, free dove deodorant, and so much more! Check out my the deals I snagged at Coupon Compulsion.

CVS on the other hand was interesting... especially since a little boy insisted on throwing his shoes off and out of the cart... it made for multiple games of hide-and-seek as I got to search the store not once... not twice... but three times for a missing shoe! But he had fun!

All in all, the week has gone great. I seem to be catching on to Faith's schedule - I know she'll go and change it up soon though! But right now we're enjoying the fact that she is sleeping 4-6 hours at a time at night, and Jacob has been great in helping as he can. Nathan is back to sleeping through the night, too - I guess it had been that ear infection which was waking him in the middle of the night last week.

We miss all the help from grandparents, but we're managing just fine! It's much more fun and easier than I had feared just 2 weeks ago. God is certainly taking care of us, granting me the patience I need and blessing us beyond measure with our two wonderful kids!
