Big Girl Bed

Recently Nathan has fallen in love with the crib. He figured out how to climb in. And it's not usual for us to find him playing in it anymore...

He even tought Faith how to climb in!! So we moved all the furniture away from the crib...

It didn't take Nathan long to figure out how to scale the sides and get in again.
It hasn't been a regular occurance to find him in the crib with his sister in the morning...
With his comforter, stuffed animals, and pillow, too!

Bedtime has become an hour or two long fight, every night... trying to keep him from trying to sleep in the crib with his sister... He throws his comforter, sheets, stuffed animals, and himself all into her crib. Crowding his sister till her laughter turns to cries....

So this weekend we bought Faith a big girl bed! Since there's a third child on the way, we knew we'd eventually have to get a 3rd twin bed. And, since the bedrooms in the new house are small, we knew we'd eventually want bunk beds. So we bought bunk beds this weekend. Jacob seriously impressed me with his negotiating skills - we got a solid unfinished wood set, and two mattresses, for far less than I would have ended up paying. Woo hoo!

We put Faith on a mattress on the floor, while we finished the wood on the beds... We  hoped that the mattress would solve the issue of Nathan wanting to sleep with his sister... if they insisted on being together, at least there was enough room on the mattress for Nathan, and all his stuff, and Faith wouldn't get squashed.... but it wasn't long into bed time when we found this:

Not only was Nathan in the crib, he'd somehow taught  his sister how to climb in, too! (or maybe he pulled her in??) And, can you see what's in there with them? Yup... both comforters, Nathan's sheet. Faith's baby blanket, four stuffed animals, two pillows and two toddlers. How on earth did they plan to sleep?

We put them back in their own beds, knowing it wouldn't last long... and after a while it got quiet, they finally settled down to sleep...  I had to peek to see where they ended up...

Ha ha ha ha! I guess it's the crib Nathan likes, and not so much sleeping with his sister! Jacob made a good point - that Nathan loves to snuggle, and always loved to be swaddled. So maybe he likes the tight confines of the crib, over a big bed?? If I wasn't concerned about the crib holding up with all his climbing in and out, I would probably just let him make the crib his new bed!

Monday we worked on finisheing the wood bunk beds. Nathan enjoyed painting with me. And Faith loved her brush - though it was clean. She thought she was painting :)

After the wood dried, and aired out, we put the bottom bunk together for Faith on Tuesday night!

Oh, who am I kidding... Jacob put the bottom bunk together :)

And the kids were drawn to it like a magnet!
They LOVE soft stuff. When we were house hunting, if it was a model home with carpet, the kids would do that same thing - lay flat on it, face down. And not move. Hysterical!

There's the big girl with her new big girl bed!

Would she actually sleep in it tonight??
We goofed... we didn't think about the safety rail. It doesn't fit on the bed, because of the style of bed! We should have put the top bunk together for her, so she'd have a built in rail. Oh well... her bed is lower than normal, and I check on her lots each night - padding up the one side so it's harder for her to roll out. And so far, she's done fine! Not once has she fallen out. She doesn't toss & turn at night, so that's an added plus!

Her first night in her new bed, was another fight. Nathan wanted in her new bed. In fact, if you ask Nathan who's bed it is, he'll tell you it's "nayna's" lol  Once, when I checked on them, Nathan had his comforter, sheet, pillow, stuffed animals and himself all in her bed. And Faith was laying on Nathan's bed - with no blankets, or pillows. Just her stuffed dog and herself. ha ha. I thought they'd stay that way... but eventually she made it back to her bed. And slept at the foot.

And Nathan slept at the top of the bed, with all his stuff.
LOL  At least there's room for both of them now :)

Night 2, we made more progress....

Faith slept at the top of her bed! But with her feet on her pillow... lol

And Nathan???

Nathan actually slept in his OWN bed!
Trust me, he's under there. He burrows... hehe

And night three???

Faith is getting closer to sleeping properly...
at least her head is on her pillow :)
And Nathan? He is still sleeping on his own bed!
