Ruth is 2 months old! She had her 2 month well-check doctor's appointment on Friday. What'd we learn??
She's 11 lb, 5oz now. And 22 1/2 inches long. She's growing right on track! She's in the 50th percentile for hieght and 75th for weight - she's a healthy baby girl!
The doctor agreed that she's in great health. Her right eye had a plugged tear duct off and (mostly) on from day 2 thru till around week 4. But that's completely cleared up. And around 6 weeks of age, her face broke out in baby acne. I don't remember that happening to Nathan & Faith, but moms of kids who have had it assured me it was disappear around week 8 - and sure enough, that's when it disappeared. Apparently breast fed babies are much more prone to it - thanks to mommy's hormones.
Breast fed babies... yes, Ruth still is one of those! It's been a great blessing to be able to nurse Ruth this time around. I still have supply issues, but nothing like I did in the past. Right now, Ruth nurses well in the morning and as evening approaches, she gets frustrated with how little I make, so we supplement. I'm able to mostly supplement with pumped milk - and she gets up to 6 oz of formula a day. Some days none.
I'm able to supplement with pumped milk because Ruth SLEEPS THRU THE NIGHT. And when I say, she sleeps... she sleeps for up to 11 hours at a time!!!!! PRAISE GOD FOR OUR AWESOME SLEEPER!!! So I try to pump in the middle of the night to save up for supplementing. So far, I'm keeping up to almost meet her hunger needs. And, based on her height & weight, it's working ;-)
Ruth doesn't always take naps. Oddly, she takes better naps the days she sleeps 11 hours straight at night. I never did understand how when a baby sleeps well, the nap well but when they don't sleep well, they don't nap.... go figure. She's not on a very predictable nap schedule, but she's predictable at night - and so that's just fine with me :)
Ruth's great at holding her head up. She enjoys some tummy time. And she enjoys being held up on our shoulder or sitting upright in our lap. But what she really loves is staring at people. It doesn't matter so much who she stares at, as long as they have a face and eyes to gaze into. She loves to lay next to her brother and stare at him. And, on occassion, Faith slows long enough to make eye contact, too.
Ruth's wearing size 0-3months right now. Some fit better than others. It's nice that she's growing slow enough to get the most out of some cute outfits.
And her hair is still dark and silky. Her eyes are still bluish/gray that seem to be turning brown. And her birthmark?? The only one I've seen is right under her left nostril... what a terrible place for a birthmark. Day one, I thought maybe she'd scratched herself or been scratched during birth. But it's still there. Some days its not very noticeable at all, so hopefully it will continue to fade.
She's been smiling and cooing for a few weeks now. She seems most cheerful about 10 minutes before she gets hungry. But she's starting to smile more often, and at more things/people - especially if she can look into someone's eyes - or even the eyes of a stuffed toy. She loves faces! I wonder if she'll be a people person... we'll see.
God already knows what He has in store for Ruth one day. But for the moment, we just get to enjoy her at two months of age. And enjoy we do! :)
Just for fun, we took a photo of Ruth in the same outfit Faith wore for her two mont photo. The two girls couldn't be much different. But they both sure are cute :)
