Potty Training

I've lost track of how many times we've tried to start potty training Nathan. Each time we make a tiny improvement... but he still just refuses to go to the bathroom in the potty - the real toilet or his training potty. Recently he's started doing this in the middle of the morning:

Bringing me the wipes and a new diaper or pull-up when he has a wet or dirty diaper. So it's 100% apparent that he knows when he goes. And he knows he needs a clean diaper. But how do I get him to pee in the potty??? He'll hold it in and then go an hour or two later.

We've sat with him on the toilet for 20 minutes, 30 minutes even 2 hours at a time. We've tried running water... dripping water on his you-know-what... sitting him backwards on the toilet... going bare-bottomed... bribbing him with a new truck toy... putting things in the toilet for him to shoot at... nothing's working.

Most of you all have been through this stage already with a little boy, so I want to ask for suggestions, advice, and potty training wisdom from the pros! Anyone have some advice or ideas on what worked with your kids??

I will tell you the same thing our pediatrician told this frustrated and worried mom many years ago -- "I've never had one of my patients go to kindergarten in a diaper!" At 3-1/2, "you know who" finally got it. One day, he took his diaper off himself and when I went to put a new one on, he said "NO." I was getting so worried that we'd have to start buying adult diapers because he was out-growing the largest of the baby diapers.
Here are some suggestions that I remember the dr. giving me ...
* Make sure that his feet are either firmly on the floor or a stool (the fear of falling in makes him not want to go).
* Let him sit on the potty or toilet for a few minutes at a time. If he doesn't go, praise him for trying and say "we'll try again in a little while." Making him sit for long periods of time can make him not want to poop or pee.
I hope this helps, honey. But remember -- he just turned two. Since he's not talking yet, he just might not be ready.
