Flower Power

When I moved to TX last summer, I knew I needed to find a Bible study. To help me grow in the Word. And to meet some other moms. There was only one church I found in my area that offered childcare during the summer... and so that's where I went! (There's not a church on every street corner here in SA... in fact, there are very few good ones. I think AMRBC should come plant one... what do you think?? hehe)

Well, turns out, during the school year, the church I started attending offers MOPS and a moms' Bible study that rotate weeks. So come school year, I joined MOPS. It's been a really good outlet to get out of the house and meet some friends. And the kids love it there, too!

MOPS is by far a Bible study... it's mostly just an excuse for Christian moms to get together and have fun - and I'm all for that! My opinions on MOPS International, as an organization... well... you'd have to ask me about that another time... But this particular group has been great at helping me meet friends and is a great excuse to get out of the house!

All that to say, at the last MOPS meeting we made a craft. There's usually a craft or missions project at each meeting. This time we learned to make flower pins:

I actually opted to make flower hair bows instead of pins. I made two small ones, thinking they'd look cute on Faith. She has almost no hair bows. I know, what kind of mother am I?? But she really doesn't have enough hair to wear them... she sports a baby mullet at the moment... long and curly in the back. Short in the front and on the sides. Don't tell her I said that. But yes, it's a mullet.

I made a cute little purple flower and a pink hair bow for her, too. And after the MOPS meeting, when I picked my kids up from the nursery, I had to try one on Faith. Would it work? Did she have enough hair??

She did have enough hair! The flower was a bit big for her hair... it's hard to tell in the photo because it's actually more behind her head than on the side... remember... all her hair is in the back ;-)

Well, this inspired me to learn to make more bows and things.
And to try to let my little princess wear things in her hair more often.
We'll see how far I get with that... lol
Anyways, Faith completely ignored the barrett in her hair. She left it alone. Which surprised me. She liked to wear it. She liked it so much, she made someone jealous...

Nathan wanted one, too!
He saw how much his sister liked it and insisted he have one, too. While we walked to the car, Nathan kept pointing to his head and saying, "I wan da, I wan da." Well... I did make two... So, um... OK...

Nathan was so proud of his pink flower hair pin! He wore it all the way through the church, through the parking lot, and most of the way home.

We carpooled with a friend that day. And halfway home, Nathan took his flower out of his hair and offered it to his four year old friend, Will, sitting next to him in the back seat. Will immediately leaned as far from Nathan as he could and said, "no, no, no!" LOL  Maybe soon Nathan will learn that hair bows are for girls. Then again... he is related to his Uncle Dave... hehe

Want to know how to make flower pins & hair bows yourself?
There's a tutorial HERE - they're super easy :)
