Play Kitchen Set

We wanted to get Faith a play kitchen set for Christmas this year. But we didn't want something that would fall apart in a year or so. So I started shopping around, watching prices and reading reviews. And then I found this idea on Pinterest...

Some creative parents turned an old TV stand into a play kitchen! How awesome! We could do something that cool, right?? We just needed the right piece of furniture first...

After a few trips to Goodwill,
we found an IKEA baby changing station that would work for us!

Daddy worked hard to repurpose it into a kitchen, and Nathan got to help out, too.

Nathan was so proud to be using Daddy's tools!
We found a free old kitchen faucet off craigslist...
Got some oven & burner knobs from a appliance repair center...
Got a refrigerator handle from the same place, and cut it to size.
I found some cheap utensils and a timer at IKEA,
and at Goodwill, I found some pots and a metal bowl to use as a sink.
Jacob painted flat wood discs (from Michaels) for burners.
And he cut up a shelf that was in our garage when we moved in, for an oven rack.
Then he used up remainingwall  paint from when we moved in, too.
And top coated it with lots of polycrylic to help it stand up to preschoolers.
A cabinet handle off ebay worked great as an oven handle.
And Lowes was happy to sell us materials to make a working oven light.
A frame and photo of our backyard, plus some dollar fabric made for a cute window.
And some empty food containers helped stock the fridge and shelf.
Put it all together and you get...

A gorgeous, custom made, kitchen set by Daddy.
Something our kids will cherish for years to come!

The kids love the kitchen set!!
They have so much fun making all kinds of food.

 Faith loves to make oatmeal.
And Nathan has a great time making "choo choo cake"
He even puts real choo-choos in his cakes. Wow :)
Speaking of "cakes", one special one was baked the other day...

Daddy - you did an AWESOME job on the kitchen set!
Our kids will cherish it for years and years, and reward you with lots of yummy pretend foods :)
