Back to Work

Its 1am Thursday morning. I'm (Kim) awake and Nathan's not. Now thats a role reversal. Lately he's been skipping his midnight feeding, and going from 8pm-3am each night. But Wednesday he had an 11pm feeding. So we'll see what he does tonight. It'll be nice when the 3am feeding disappears, I was hoping that would go before the midnight one. But once I'm up, its kinda nice to sit with him in the quiet. And he always goes right back to bed. Then its up again between 5-6 for Jacob in the morning. I think the growth spurt must be past, because he's happy with just 4 oz now, 3 at night, and is eatting every 4 hours instead of 2 1/2. Everyday seems to change though.

I went back to work Tuesday and it went well. Its an adjustment to start thinking differently and handling Nathan at the same time. Tuesday he had his first true babysitter during staff meetings for 3 hours. He did great. But we don't want to put him in childcare just so I can work. I love my job and love being back, but Nathan being there too is part of the deal and work has been so gracious to let me do that, when I can. I'd go crazy staying home all day, but Nathan still comes first. So I'm just coming back part time, 25 hours a week. Stacey is going full time. And hopefully we'll gain permission to hire an administrative assistant soon too. I have to be careful not to work more than 25 hours, which in non-baby circumstances would be tough to hold to. But I think Nathan will make it impossible to work more than 25 hours (5 hours Sunday mornings, 5 hours from home and 15 in the office).

Wednesday we went to Greenville to visit a cloth diapering group. That was interesting.... a bunch of hippies & homeschoolers in one room. It was more of a playgroup for the toddlers, but Nathan is a bit young to join in. And I didn't click with any of the moms, so I left early. I know people think we're crazy for cloth diapering... but those ladies at the cloth diapering group, some of them are the crazy ones. They truely cloth diaper... with the prefolds & all. I admire their courage and committment to do that. But what I find funny & crazy is how they get so excited about different diaper designs... did you know that designer prefolds are available with flowers, cartoons, etc? Something you PEE and POOP on, that no one sees because its inside a waterproof wrap, shouldn't be so pretty. And as much as I like our easy system, I'm not going to go ga ga over different color and designs on any kind of diapers. But I'm glad they have something to talk about. We love our Bum Genius diapers - as easy as disposable - but I don't want to spend a morning chatting about their designs!

We left the group early and headed to Jacob's work since we were in Greenville. He already had lunch plans and didn't know we were in Greenville, so we stopped by quietly to toilet paper his truck. I was hoping he'd have his motorcycle, and we could totally wrap that. But it was raining, so he drove the truck. And I can only imagine that the TP was pasted to the truck, fro the rain, by the time he saw it. We just used one roll, but that was enough :) I took a pic with my cell phone, but am having issues in getting it off there so I can post it. I'll post it another day.

We do have a short video though. Nathan has been more active and wider awake this week for hours at a time. He's liking time on his tummy more and more. And his eyes will follow objects now. He's getting a lot stronger too. He loves to stare at your eyes now, not just hair lines and faces. In fact, Wednesday night I think I got the first real smile while changing his diaper. His whole face lit up and he was staring right at me. But he wouldn't do it again. I'm still counting it as a "real" smile :) Anyways, while staring at his daddy later that night, I took a few seconds of video to see if he'd keep making silly faces. He didn't so much, but its still cute :)

Enjoy the video. I can't wait to post ones of him smiling when he gets better at that. He has the best smile (not that I'm biased) :)
