All In A Day's Work

I have one of the greatest jobs. Not only did God bless me to work at one of the most exciting and Christ-centered & growing churches in the Upstate, but I get to work with adults and kids, teach about God, be creative, and do some of the strangest things. There's always something different to do, that's for sure!

The other day, I was driving Jacob's truck. Nathan was in the backseat laughing at his daddy who was riding in the bed of the truck with a 5 foot tall giant inflatable kangaroo. And you know, I didn't think it was strange at all. Until people who were driving by starting laughing and pointing. Some I knew. Most I didn't. Yup, I had a giant kangaroo as a passenger. How many people can say that?

I guess I didn't think it too odd since I get to do strange things - and strange things come at me - quite often. Here's a few from the almost years I've been involved in children's ministry (as a volunteer or staff):

* There was the time I got to purchase 150 foot of gutter. For a banana split. A really big banana split.

* There are a couple times a year when I get to FILL my van with pizzas... like 75 or more. You definitely get odd looks from other customers when you do that.

* There are the Walmart cashiers that have given me strange looks for buying a cart (or two) full of animal crackers in the past. (Until about a year ago, Walmart was cheaper than Sams and any other distributor of those kid-friendly crackers!)

* There was the time I got to lay down 30 yards of astro-turf in the sanctuary.

* There are the days I get to walk around church (on a Wednesday night) with green hair, bunny ears and slippers on.

* There are the people that create the unexpected... like the time someone wanted to start a historic coin ministry (seriously). Or there was that bug swallowing, pickle juice incident...

* I've had the pleasure of sitting (I use that word loosely) in a dunk tank... putting a happy meal through a blender... and wallpapering an entire room in aluminum foil...

* And I can't forget the time I got to help figure out how to get a dead body to Mexico. That comes close to the top of the "strange things to do at work" list. Actually. I think that wins.

Well... all that to say, Did you see the giant kangaroo in the lobby today?!?! Did you follw the kangaroo's instructions & sign up to help out with VBS??? It's June 7-11, Sunday - Thursday (no Friday this year!) from 6-8:30pm. We'll feed you & your family dinner at 5pm. Sign up outside the santuary. Buy a shirt next weekend. And get ready to travel to the land down under as we minister to the community families and watch as hundreds of kideroos learn about God and grow closer to Jesus. Would you join me in daily praying for the 400 expected children this year?? Pray for their salvation, their understanding, their safety, that they enjoy our church and that their families are reached through VBS as well!
