Fertility Dance - (Warning - may contain TMI??)

On a related note to the whole Hampster Dance post, I thought I'd share about one thing I gave Kristen at her bridal shower (the shower where she got a musical hampster dance card from us... hehe).

WARNING - this may contain too much information, if you're not interested in the subject ;-)

I gave Kristen a book that I've come to love. I'm not alone... Amazon has 1,300+ reviews and still the book has a solid 5-star rating. What book is it??

I understand that Kristen may have thought it was part-joke - sorry if I embarassed you! But it wasn't a joke. It is an excellent book about women's health. Not just about pregnancy & birth control. The author writes in a way that is easy to read and jam packed full of information we never learned in our 6th grade sex-ed class. I was blown away by the information and things I learned about my body. And I reference this book regularly.

When "the pill" didn't work out for me (I'll leave out those details), I turned to this book and it's been our method of birth control ever since. I've met a number of women who use the same method - very successfully. And I've met a number of women who thought they were infertile until they tried this method - and successfully got pregnant (many multiple times).

But it's not just for birth control... if you're past that point in life, or not yet married, this book is still jam packed with information. And super easy to read and understand - I'm a slow reader, and read it in a matter of a day or two. I'll admit that I like science and biology - I like learning about this stuff. But I think it'll interest women who don't share the same love of science.  It really is a great book!

And so that's why I gave it to Kristen at her shower. To share the wealth of knowledge in the book. What better time, right?? ;-)  I'm not implying that I want a neice or a nephew right away... hehe... just wanted to pass on the information I was so thankful someone shared with me three years ago :)

Oh, and, yes, David - Nathan & Faith are products of this book ;-)  Well... Faith... I let my guard down and wasn't practicing the methods in this book as well as I could have been.... truth be known... I wasn't very awake ;-)  TMI, I know. I warned you!!  But because of the book, I knew I was probably pregnant with Faith (and that it was probably a girl!) within a day of conception... yup... I said I knew that the baby was probably a girl. How?? The book! READ THE BOOK!!

There's so much great stuff in this book, I hate to only highlight the gender swaying chapter (cause it's controversal and doesn't even take up 2% of the book...) But I already mentioned it, so I'll share. I laughed at the gender swaying chapter, till I read it. She explains it really well, and claims theres about an 85% success rate in swaying gender - if done properly. So far, we're 2 for 2 ;-)  Now, I'll probably never know if that's because the science of this method is true, or if we just got lucky... but it sounds really good ;-)

Briefly explained... little boy sperm live fast but short lives. Little girl sperm are slow and hearty. So if you want a boy, you time things as close to the day of ovulation as you can (and she explains how to do that). And if you want a girl, you time things two-three days before ovulation. That way the little boys, who got to the end faster are hopefully all dead before the egg arrives, and the slower girls, who live longer, get to the egg. Make sense?

Also, if you want to try for a boy, the author recommends that Daddy needs to be gentle to his boys for a while before hand cause those little guys are fragile and don't survive certain activities Daddy might do...  The author shares statistics on how men who fly high-performance aircrafts, or who are deep sea divers, or who are exposed to toxic substances, or who do things like ride bikes alot... they have a higher number of girls in their family - far more girls than boys compared to normal dads ;-)  Hmm... makes you wonder, gotta be something to this! It certainly makes sense to me. She explains it all far better than I do! You just gotta read the book ;-)

Ok, so that's way too much information. But it's such a great book - and I wanted to share since I didn't get to explain the gift at the bridal shower. If you get it and read it, I'm sure you'll treasure the information as much as I have! Let me know if you read it - or if you already knew about this book!

This *is* a great book! For so many reasons. I've never thought about giving it as a bridal shower gift. There are a few other books we tend to give with wedding gifts, but hadn't thought of this one. I'm gonna add it to the list!
