Happy Easter!! Our family celebrates this season because of the resurrection of our Lord! It gives us hope, reminds us of the gift of His forgiveness from sins and the sacrifice He made to die in such a way because He loves us so much... I could go on!
Yesterday I thought we'd make a special treat after lunch and talk about how Jesus died and rose again. I realize our kids are too young to understand any of that. But if we wait till their old enough, we'll waste valuable time building memories, making habits and laying a foundation for faith. So yesterday, we made resurrection rolls. Never heard of them? Oh, they're easy and fun! And great for young kids, too. Here's how we made them:
First, we got a large marshmallow and said we were going to pretend it was Jesus.
The kids practiced saying "Jesus" and I told them that the Bible tells us Jesus died.
When He died, his friends poured special oil all over Him.
So we rolled our marshmallow in melted butter.
Then Jesus' friends covered his body with spices.
So we rolled our buttery marshmallow in cinnamon & sugar.
Next, Jesus' friend wrapped his body in cloth and put him in a tomb.
So we put our marshmallow in crescent roll dough - and wrapped them up.
And then licked our fingers... haha!
I completely failed to take photos of our wrapped up tombs before they baked... sorry
But we put the rolls in the oven for 12 minutes.
They were SUPPOSE to puff up, and the marshmallow was suppose to melt.
So when you opened the "tomb", it would be empty.
Well... apparently the kids & I weren't very good at sealing the dough well.
Our marshmallows oozed out. Oh well.
Next year we'll double up and use 2 crescent rolls per marshmallow.
And I'll be better at making sure they're all sealed up.
Although most rolls didn't look like planned, they were all still very edible & yummy!
And there was one roll that turned out pretty cool...
And there was one roll that turned out pretty cool...
It was an empty tomb!
Just like the woman found it on Easter Sunday -
Jesus was gone, He rose from the dead!
The resurrection rolls were pretty good, too!
HAPPY EASTER!
I hope you have a great day celebrating
