I've mentioned before that Nathan gets speech therapy through a local nonprofit organization. Easter Seals works all over the country to get early childhood intervention to children with a whole array of special needs - if you need assistance, call them and they'll connect you with the local nonprofit in your area. They provide specialists that come to your house (or daycare, etc) to work with the child based on the child's individual needs. But they only offer services through the age of three. Because once three, a child is eligible for services through the public school system.
Nathan turns three this Saturday - yikes! And so today was our last therapy session with the ladies from our local nonprofit group. The OT (Occupational Therapist) was unable to come today (we saw her last week), but Nathan's SLP (Speech Language Pathalogist) and his ECS (Early Childhood Specialist) came today and had a little graduation/birthday party for Nathan.

Nathan's ECS even brought him a Toy Story balloon and a cap & gown to wear!
Too cute! We had to let Faith put it on first in order to convince Nathan he should wear it... lol
Once little sis was wearing the cap & gown, jealous big brother was willing to try it out, too. hehe
And Nathan's ECS even brought cupcakes to celebrate his 3rd birthday, too!
Nathan was so excited!
And so was Faith!
The SLP, ECS & I were talking while the kids ate
and none of us noticed Nathan stealing more cupcakes... lol
I caught him red handed (well... pink handed) on his 3rd cupcake!
I have so appreciated having such wonderful women in Nathan's life - to teach me and him, and help us all develop habits to strengthen his speech development. The ladies have also been a great encouragement to me and Nathan, and helped us greatly in the process of getting him enrolled in public school therapy for this upcoming school year - and helping us pick a school district to live in that would best support his needs. I'll miss these ladies, and so will Nathan. But he's on to a new chapter in life now - age three. And I can't wait to see all the things he learns this year!
