Magic Milk

A month or so ago, I was introduced to a relatively new website called Pinterest. Oh my goodness... I was an instant addict. I think I spent 3 hours that first evening looking through the site, instead of sleeping. I only gave up when my eye lids refused to cooperate any longer...

What's Pinterest? Think facebook, but for ideas instead of people. People share bookmarks that they "pin" from all over the web and then you can see them, comment, re-pin them to share with your followers, etc. If you like to craft, cook, decorate, garden, read, etc... if you like finding new ideas for teaching, things to do with kids, discipline ideas, home improvement, etc, etc, etc... this site is for you! But I warn you, only join if you have a few extra hours on your hands - cause you're gunna get sucked in, too ;-)  Oh, and if you do join - you might get stuck on a waiting list. I did. Just email me (or message me on fb) and I'll send you an invite to get you in right away ;-)

So... anyways... I've already done a bunch of things in the house, and with the kids thanks to pinterest. Like our lack of a guest room linen closet solution... painting a mural in the nursery... birthday "candy card" for Jacob... freezer meal ideas.... Jacob & I's homemade halloween costumes... some fine motor skill ideas for Nathan... and I've got tons more on my to-do list.

But here's one flop. Magic milk. I learned about it from a pin someone put on Pinterest from this site. Looks awesome, right?? I thought so to. Maybe we did something wrong though... anyways, I've got pics, so why not post.

So you start with a saucer of milk.
They recommend whole milk. All we had was 2%. maybe that's where we went wrong.
Then you drop food coloring into the milk.

Then you dip the end of a toothpick into some dish soap and then dip that into the milk.
All I had was dry spaghetti... maybe a problem?? Doubtful though...
And voila! Awesome, huh? It was! The kids loved it!
The colors magically moved around in a neat pattern! It was cool!

But then, that was it. A 2nd dip did nothing. No more colors moved and danced.
But the kids still had a blast mixing them anyways!

So we tried it again. This time with fewer color drops.
And WOW - the colors danced with that first dip.
Very cool.

But then, again, nothing for the 2nd dip on forward.
But the kids still had fun, none the less!!

Next time, we'll try whole milk.
It sure would be a fun project to do with that 4 hour old sippy cup of milk left sitting in the living room... if it works.

We've tried lots of other fun things from Pinterest ideas.
I feel silly that the first adventure I've posted was a flop, but it was the first I grabbed pics of :) And the kids still thought it was cool.
