Nathan has started some not-so-cute habits. Besides the old (and normal) habit of massive poops and his newer habit of drooling a lot (a bib is a wardrobe staple anymore), he's started boycotting naps. Yeah, even though he has my genes. It's craziness. He gets cranky and I know he needs a nap. He'll even yawn. But he refuses to nap. Occassionally he'll dose off for 20 minutes or so. But where'd his 2-3 hour morning & afternoon naps go?? Their absence/irregularity sure makes it hard to get anything done.
An equally un-cute habit that has recently popped up is the sprouting of picky taste buds. Maybe it was the introduction of rice cereal at night. I don't know. But I do know that he'll be super hungry and reject regular formula. He'll keep rejecting it till I pull out some breastmilk (if its available), which he gobbles down quick. Thankfully its just a couple times a day that he does this, and not all the time. Because I just cannot produce enough to satisfy him and it'll be a long long few months if he eventually gets to the point where he refuses formula all together.
But inspite of the new challenges he brings, he does an aweful lot of really cute things too...
... he has a half "elvis-like" smile
... he has an imaginary friend who sits on top of Jacob's desk - at least thats my take on it. He LOVES to stare, smile and even giggle at the top of Jacob's desk.
... he has started to laugh. Only it usually quickly turns to crying, as though laughter scares him into tears.
... his face lights up in smiles each evening when his daddy comes home from work.
... he snores. Manly snores. See the post from last week for the video - yes, that really is Nathan snoring and not someone else making the noise. He snores in SS class too. Evidently his daddy doesn't do a good enough job keeping every one's attention ;-)
... he has manly burps. They're loud!
... he can roll onto his side. But he hasn't gotten strong enough to roll over.
... he has discovered his hands and loves to suck on them. I'm not completely convinced that he can wave, but often it seems like he moves his hands up and down when I do. I know its just wishful thinking on my part.
... he loves to sit in his jumping chair. Since he's been introduced to it, he has no interest in laying down. He just wants to practice using those leg muscles.
... he has a knack for growing. Sunday he wore a 9 month old outfit - and it fit. It seems like everyday I have to set aside an outfit that no longer fits. We returned his halloween outfit for a 6-9 month old one - he's going to be so cute, if it still fits next month! And chances are slim that his "I'm a little turkey" outfit will even be close to wearable for thanksgiving...
... and he has one more adorable habit. In the early morning and late night hours when I feed him while he's still half-asleep, I'll take the bottle away when he seems to be done, and his tongue will continue to nurse on the imaginary bottle, with his mouth open. I wish I could get it on tape, but its always dark and the light would wake him, causing him to stop sucking on the imaginary bottle. Its so sweet to see his little tongue doing the wave, for lack of a better description. And makes being up at 3am a little more enjoyable!
Well, I can't have a post without sharing a picture or video for all of you who haven't gotten to see his precious smiles yet. Here he was tonight when Jacob got home:
