One Small Step for Nathan... One Giant Leap for Mommy & Daddy

YEAH!!! Nathan did it!! Well, almost. He almost slept through the night last night - YEAH!!! He slept for 7 1/2 hours straight. YEAH!!! He slept from 9pm-4:30am without a stir. YEAH!!! And then he went back to sleep after downing 8oz. YEAH!!! He slept for another 3 hours. YEAH!!! He's such a big boy - literally. YEAH!!! Ok, enough "yeah"s.

What's more amazing about Nathan sleeping so long is that he did it on just 3 oz in his belly! He only ate 2 oz at 8pm... we only fed him what would ease him for a short time so we could give him the rest at bedtime (9pm). But at 9pm, he only took 1 ounce before turning into a wet noodle in Jacob's arms. There was no way to keep him awake to take more. So he went to sleep without much in his belly. And he still slept 7 1/2 hours. Tonight he took 4 oz (with rice cereal) at 8:30 and went to bed just before 9... so we'll see if this sleeping through the night trend continues. Maybe we'll hit 8 hours tonight?...here's hoping!

There is one trend that has no sign of stopping. His growth. We weighed Nathan tonight. Now last time I did this at home, it was only about .5 oz off his weight in the doctor's office. Well, both Jacob & I weighed him (held him and weighed ourselves, then weighed ourselves without him and did the math). We both got the same figure.... ready for this? Drum roll please.... 17.5 lbs!!! And he's 26 inches long now. I can't believe how big he has gotten. Seeing all the newborn babies at church recently reminds me of what he was like not even 3 months ago. Wow he has grown. Our God is so amazing to create our bodies so perfectly, designed to grow like they do. Just amazing.

The only thing that isn't practically perfect about Nathan is what I discovered yesterday... something that freaked me out. Nathan had fungus growing on his neck!! First, I didn't know what it was. It was in a fold of his neck, peeling off. It's really hard to see that area because his head rarely bends in a way to make it visible. Stacey (at work) said it looked like a yeast infection. A call to the doctor confirmed (over the phone). I freaked out and was upset that I was such a bad mom. But the nurse (and friends) assured me that its very very common. It happens anywhere theres a moist and warm environment. Usually it happens on the bottom... but the cloth diapers we're using don't allow moisture to sit there. So I hope we don't see it - or diaper rash - in that area. The nurse said Nathan's breakout was probably due to his new found talent - drooling. Moisture dribbled into the fold of his neck and sat there for a little while. We cleaned it good and put diaper rash cream on it, as the nurse suggested. It doesn't seem to bother him and now that its cleaned up, really doesn't look bad at all. We learn something new every day.

I'm sorry there are no pictures to post today. We'll post something soon - maybe a video of him giggling, if I can catch it on video.
