Eat - Drool - Cry - Repeat

Today has been almost a repeat of yesterday. Only slightly better because the happy baby has peeked out a little more often. But still 80% of the day has been crying or screaming at the top of his lungs. 15% eating and only 5% napping or smiling. No, I'm not exagerating. I now know why some animals eat their young. And I have soooo much more respect and admiration for moms who deal with colicky babies everyday! You ladies are heroes in my book!!!

Today's been the first time that I've actually gone and hid from Nathan for a moment... he was safe, don't worry. And it was just for a moment. I needed that moment to remind myself that he's just 4 months old. He's not doing it to be cruel. He's a baby. And he's going through a rough time. And I needed that moment for my 100th prayer of the day for patience.

So why's he so cranky today? I think its a combination of lots of things...
  • He is probably still recovering from those darn shots
  • He is going through a growth spurt... again. Eating 5-8oz every 1.5-2 hours!
  • He is starting to cut teeth. Or as I slipped up yesterday... "starting to cut tooth." Thats probably more appropriate anyways. Chances are they'll come in one tooth at a time. I hope we don't have 8 months of waiting for that first one though!
  • He is still congested, too. But thats getting better. He's still snoring more when he naps and has the occassional cough, but its getting better slowly.
So I can't complain too bad. Taking care of him is easier than going through all that at once at four months of age. And I can't help but think about God through it all. He's granting me patience - more and more everyday. And reminding me that just as I take care of Nathan - as a good parent should; how much more He will take care of me - as only the perfect Father could. With perfect patience. Perfect love. Perfect care, mercy and grace.

"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" Matthew 7:11

Bless your heart! Hide as often as you need to, a short walk outside might help too. Aren't you glad these days are few and far between.
