Purple Baby

A few weeks ago, Ruth got a nasty yeast infected diaper rash. All that is cleared up now. But this mommy wasn't smart enough to forsee the probability of a yeast infection spreading...... not even after I started aching a few days later.... I just failed to put two and two together since my pain was nothing like it was when Faith & I got thrush.

Last night, before bed, I noticed Ruth's diaper rash starting to show up again.... and I had the mindset to look in her mouth. Sure enough... those evil white dots were just starting to form! THRUSH! joy, oh joy, oh joy... I tried so hard to avoid the stuff when Ruth was first born, and after 3 months, I stopped all the preventative measures - thinking we were in the clear ...lesson learned.

At least now I know why I hurt too... and now we know why Ruth was up half the night Monday night, too.... At least Ruth only had symptoms for about 20 hours before I figured it out - thankfully she hasn't been in pain, too (she's been as happy as usual - we thought Monday night was maybe do to teething).

I learned a lot about thrush from past experience with Faith.... So I haven't even bothered calling doctors. They only prescribe Nystatin and I've yet to meet a mom who says that junk worked for their kid.... it certainly didn't work for Faith after 6 weeks being on it.... So we're just going straight for what I know works best - gentian violet. So now we have a purple baby :)

A happy purple baby!

And yes, she's wearing a "litte boys" bib - but it's already stained from when Faith was on the stuff, so we're sticking with the same few outfits for a few days - no use staining new stuff! Especially since Ruth is a LOT more active than Faith was when she had thrush (from 5-11 weeks old). Ruth's hands are purple, her cheeks are purple, her arms are purple, her nose is purple, she even has a dot on her ears. lol  Thankfully the stuff wears off skin in a few hours. And, I expect, by the end of the week, we'll be done with it all! :)

Hello purple cutie. Goodbye thrush.
