A few weeks ago my MOPS group went to a local nursing home to visit with some residents. We joined the residents in the activity room to decorate pots and plant seeds. Most of the kids were too shy to interact with the residents, but I know the residents enjoyed watching the kids.
We collected soup and formula cans for decorating & planting the seeds.
(A big thank you to Jacob for drilling holes in them all!)
I let Nathan and Faith choose some scrapbook paper to color and wrap around their cans. Any surprise that Nathan picked yellow? And he wanted a yellow crayon to color with... lol
Faith picked orange. And they sat together at the table to color.
Some moms were braver - they let their kids paint the cans.
But with 3 kids on my own, I wasn't as brave....
Plus, we all know what happens within 24 hours of Nathan painting....
(he paints with his poop at nap time!!! Needless to say, he's still banned from painting).
The kids were oblivious that some people were painting.
They just had fun coloring.
Some of the moms in our group (that only had one child to watch),
decorated cans for residents with scrapbook paper.
And Mrs. Diana - the activities director let Faith help her paint a can for a resident, too.
And Ruth? No painting for her, either.
Though lots of people asked if she'd eaten a purple paint brush... ha
She was still purple from the gentian violet treatments for thrush.
And she was great at making residents and staff smile :)
Our friend Bennet, and his grandmother (who was visiting from out of town)
visited with some residents that didn't want to join our activity.
Here's Faith & Nathan with their finished pots.
Everett painted his pot, too.
Here's our friends Veronica (and baby son William). Her mom is seated to her right.
Everett and his mom, Robin. And then Emily is standing nearby, too. Her one year old (Laynie) was off begging for crackers from all the residents, hehe.
More crafitness.
I loved watching this sweet lady paint. She would talk much, but she loved to paint.
And she paints like my kids.... her tongue is just as active as her hands ;)
Veronica & William
William lit up some faces as he and his mom visited with residents, too.
And, no, Ruth didn't sit in her carseat all morning. She rode in the Baby bjorn most of the day. And did some visiting with residents, too. Here we are talking with Ms. Macon.
After planting flowers, we headed out back to go feed the ducks by the pond. But as soon as we got there, the ducks all flew away!!! So the kids had fun feeding the pond bread... The ducks had quite a feast to return to, that's for sure! Bennett, Nathan & Everett are in the photo above. (and half of Faith's head)
We had fun at the nursing home and plan to go back sometime when we can plan another activity with Mrs. Diana.
