Yes... this one is not a joke. Although hearing the stories of people we got good with that joke a few months ago still make me giggle :) This time we are really pregant. Here's the story of how we found out...
About 2-2 1/2 weeks ago, I had a hunch that something was different... I can't describe it. But maybe you can relate. I silently paniced for 9 or 10 days, while I waited to test. As the week progressed, I slowly began to get excited about the possibility of being pregnant and not so much stressed. I thought it'd be cool if I found out on Valentine's Day - what a great surprise for Jacob and grandparents, alike. Valentine's Day was a bit too early to test, but I did anyways, hopeful... and it was negative. So I continued to wait...
Two days later, I tested again. I was impatient and did it at 4am when I woke to pee... The test was negative. And I was sort of disappointed. I thought I had known. I was wrong. Wow... I threw the test away and went to bed.
Jacob had been aware of my hunch, but as any good engineer would do, he didn't think I could "just know"; he needed hard evidence. As I climbed into bed, I told Jacob we didn't have anything to worry about. We weren't pregnant. And I went to sleep, resolved to the fact that I wasn't pregnant and then coming to realize that it was better that way afterall.
Well, Monday started as normal and while I was going about my day, just by chance I happened to notice the test in the trash can. And I paniced at what I saw. A second line! I hadn't waited the 3 minutes before assuming it was a negative test...!! The second line was faint. But it was there! I was a basket case all day Monday. I had just convinced myself that it was best not to be pregnant! And now I was. Oh no!!!
I wanted to call Jacob. I wanted to call everyone... anyone to help me work through this news.... the shock... But I tried to remain patient, wanting to tell Jacob in a creative way and wanting him to be first to know. I was going to wait till Tuesday, after I tested again, just to confirm and get a darker line. But I couldn't wait. I told him Monday night - it was a total surprise to him, as it was to me, especially after that 4am news. Our minds went wild Monday evening... and panic made itself known on a whole new level.
Tuesday morning confirmed the positive test, with a darker line. And then we got confirmation at the doctor's office on Friday! Tomorrow, Thursday, we may have our very first ultrasound! Here's hoping there aren't anymore surprises in there!
Back to last Monday night (Feb 16)... here is how I told Jacob the news:
I gave him a "belated Valentine's gift" with a special card
The card said it all, the test made it unmistakable
(the second line of the test is hard to see in this picture...
but trust me, it's there)
And his reaction was priceless!
We spent the night tossing... turning... wondering... dreaming... stressing... fearing... smiling... cringing... with little sleep. We were in shock. We still are.
Nathan's little brother or sister is due October 27.
We'll find out if it's a girl or a boy in June.
They'll be 15 1/2 months apart.
AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
