Lessons from Mommyhood

It's the eve of Nathan's 1st birthday. AHH!!! I'm so not ready for him to be one already! I know the next many years will only go faster. But I'm still learning more everyday and love being a mom! Some things I've learned... things I can remember, at least ;-)

*Never leave your child alone. Even for a second. You might turn around to find a diaper torn off and it's contents spread... I mean ground... into the living room carpet. Did I mention it was EVERYWHERE?!?!

* Mommy is cool. But Daddy is still cooler.

* When in need of a laugh, or distraction from a stresssful moment, there's one sure-fire way to get the break - turn on channel 965. The mexican music radio channel! Nathan immediately stops what he's doing, looks at the TV and starts to dance. It never fails to be simply hilarious!

* Babies learn FAST. Nathan is well aware of how to drink from a glass & water bottle. He's good at it, too. And he knows, very clearly, what those little pudding cups look like - and that Mommy usually is willing to share. Especially if you get in her face and jump with excitement until she shares. And he knows where daddy keeps the bag of chex mix. How to corner the cats. And how to turn the volume up or down on the TV.

* Mommy brain continues to strike. Most recent incidents from this past week... At the dentist, the hygentist asked me how old my son was. I told her. Then she asked "Is he walking" but I was sure she asked "Do you like him?" Surprised at her question, I repeated the question to her, as I thought I'd heard it. She laughed and thanked me for the best laugh of the week. Then there were the keys I've been looking for all week... it finally dawned on me last night... the key is on my van keychain. I've had it all week. That's why I couldn't find it anywhere else. Duh...

* God is great. He is our Sustainer, our Provider, our Lord and Savior. He's provided so very much to us in this last year - the patience, finances, time, love, laughter, comfort, and all the necessities needed to make it as parents for our first year. I can't wait to see what He does in and through our lives in Nathan's second year of life - and our daughter's first!
