It's official. We're home owners! Well... as Jacob said, "eh.... sort of. The bank owns most of it. But we at least paid for those ugly appliances!" True. We're home owners AND in debt. Lots of it.
But God is so great in that He closed the doors last year when we were attempting to go into a lot more debt on a house. And He brought us a home that has everything we want and fits our growing families needs. Granted there's a lot of work to be done. But we have the time and are excited to dive in! Ask me again in a week if we're still excited ;-)
Within hours after closing we learned what home ownership means: spending more money. hehe. And as I'm sitting here thinking about our day - while Nathan naps and Jacob preps the house for painting - I'm just smiling and thankful to God for how He is continuing to provide above and beyond our imaginations.
For example... we stopped at that Surplus Warehouse, on a whim. They cater to contractors, hence their terrible business hours. But they were open and our boy was happy. So we stopped out of curiousity. 30 minutes later we were laughing all the way to the car about our deals.
We'd been thinking about laying new vinyl flooring in that ugly nicotine colored kitchen, and the unfinished downstairs bathroom needs a floor too... But we actually got ceramic tiles instead. The warehouse has a clearance section in the back, and had two piles of tiles we liked - each with the perfect amount to do the two rooms - with some overage, just in case. When we asked about a possible discount if we took their whole stash (we were thinking like 5% since the tiles were already 50% off), we were met unopposed with an additional 65% discount! Little did they know we would have paid the asking price since it, alone, was cheaper than vinyl!
Now we need to learn to grout. Know anyone able to teach us????
Anyways, it's a great little warehouse, if you're doing home improvement. We'll be back, that's for sure - great prices!
We'll, I'm off to stare at the piles of paint chips I collected from Lowes. We're hoping to paint the ceilings tomorrow and start on the walls Monday. So I'd better start making some decisions... fast. What do you think about chartreuse walls in the living room with sun dried tomato trim...??
Oh... on a side note. Remember those gold drapes & gold pole lamp I know you were drooling over??? They're gone... the bank's realtor "trashed out" the house afterall. Which stinks. We really wanted a lot of the stuff that was left behind in that basement. And it was frustrating that even though our contract asked for it all to stay, they were still legally allowed to take it all. Even though it belonged to the bank! Erg. Oh well... guess you don't have to worry about getting a gold beaded pole lamp for Christmas.
