Potty Time

I realize that the majority of you reading this disagree or think we are insane to start potty training. But that's just what we've done!

Why so early??
* Nathan has outgrown his cloth diapers (just as Faith is starting to get big enough for them, so there's a nice break in the diaper washing for now). And even though God has led us to great bargains on disposables, buying them all the time is not good for our wallet or our planet.
* Nathan is at a stage where he wants to please us so much. He doesn't yet know how to use the word "no"
* He's also in a stage where he really wants to try to do things himself.
* He picks up on imitating us really quickly - a little too quickly sometimes - remember last night's post??
* He is mesmerized by the toilet - putting things in it mostly. But also watching how it's used.
* He's walking great, can sit & stand well, and starting to communicate with us better.
* His bladder is big enough now that he only goes through 5 diapers a day, and is always dry after nap time.
* His daddy was trained by 18 months - so it's got to be possible... not that it won't be a lot of work. But there's some hope ;-)

For those worried that we'll over pressure him or force him to do something he's not ready for, don't worry. I am willing to try for a couple months and see what happens. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. And we'll give it a few more months before trying again. But if today is any indication on how the next few months may go... he may just be trained before he turns 2!

Introducing Nathan to his new potty chair...
he thought it was the perfect place to store Teddy!

Teddy is reaching out for help - good thing that seat was still clean!

Just hours after being introduced to his potty...He pooped in it!! I'm still amazed we got there fast enough. I made a big deal of it and he looked at me half in glee, and half with a look that said "what the heck is that woman doing?" We walked it to the toilet to flush it - which I think he thought was just the best possible reward ever. He loves flushing things in the toilet!!

There was very little poop this morning, though I still made a big deal of it. The rest came just before nap time and that one didn't make it to the potty in time. But we still talked about it and flushed it.

We've started a long journey. Hopefully it'll lead to Nathan being potty trained. But with Christmas travels and a needy sister, I know that it will definitely be a long road. We'll see how it goes!

Good luck ... I'll be praying for you. Just a reminder to keep sanitizer close by the little potty, especially for those times the potty will become a hiding place for toys :-)
