Natural Bridge Caverns

Saturday, we went to Natural Bridge Caverns, just outside the city of San Antonio. Why's it called Natural Bridge Caverns? 'Cause there's a natural rock-formation-bridge just above the entrance to the caverns... duh...

I tried to take photos inside, some came out better than others. And none of them do justice to the cavern's beauty - there's no depth perception in a photo, and the flash (or lack of a flash in some places) doesn't show what the human eye sees as you walk through the cavern. But here are some of the photos from our morning:

Daddy & Daughter

Auntie M & Nathan - I love the look on Nathan's face...
This was taken just as we were entering the cave,
he had to be thinking "where on earth are we going???"

Me, Nathan & Mary

Nathan checking out the cave formations below

The emerald pool

Here comes trouble :)

Our spelunking family

There were stalagmites much taller than us - some dozens of feet tall!
This one just happened to be close to the walkway

Formations that looked like fried eggs

I thought this one looked like a sitting sheep - do you see it, too?

Valley of the Fallen Lords - some of the stalagmites looked like men

A view from the top of "King of the Mountain" - largest cave room in TX, I believe. The photo doesn't do it nearly justice.

When we left the cave, we spotted a lizard on the side of the walkway.
Nathan thought it was cool - from a distance.
Outside the caverns was a family of giant dinosaurs. Why? i've no idea... maybe it was the idea that caves = cavemen and some people think cavemen lived along side the dinosaurs?? Jacob's theory is that some family bought the 3 dinos in the gift shop, only to get them out to their car and find they wouldn't fit, so they were forced to leave them behind in the parking lot. Uh huh... realistic theory there, honey. Regardless of why they were there, they were fun to take have a picnic lunch next to, and then take photos with :)

Here's Auntie M with her niece, nephew & brother-in-law

Then Mommy got up there to get a family pic

Faith climbed up on the baby dino, hatching out of an egg.
No, she didn't climb up there by herself...
but at the rate she's going, she might be able to do that in a few months!

And Daddy tried to help Nathan ride the medium sized dino -
but Nathan wanted nothing to do with that.

He did, however, enjoy climbing under it with Daddy!

Our trip to Natural Bridge Caverns was fun! And awe-inspiring to see the wonders that God created underground. We enjoyed hanging out with my sister, Auntie M, and being the ones who got to help her experience a cavern for the first time, too!
