Riverwalk with Gramma

Saturday evening Gramma was feeling up to going out, so we headed down to the Riverwalk - hoping to show her a little bit of San Antonio - aside from the airport and hospital!

Once there, we took a riverboat cruise on the San Antonio River.

Faith had fun being on the boat - but she was more interested in the people.

Especially Gramma's nose. hehe

Jacob & I were on a riverboat cruise back in March 2008 - when we visited for his sister's wedding. It was interesting then - but this time had more meaning, now that we've been living in the city for 3 1/2 months. Like the mural in the photo below... we learned it was made for the 1968 World's Fair. The 400,000 pieces make a mosaic of Mexian/Aztec people on the left, and European's on the right. Then there's a couple in the middle, one from each culture - who marry and give birth to a son... San Antonio. Symbolizing how SA is a blend of the two worlds. Which it truly is! (You can click on the image to enlarge it.)

Then there's the statue of Saint Anthony - who San Antonio was named after. The story goes something like this... 300+ years ago monks were traveling through Texas and came upon a river. Since it was the day of the Feast of Saint Anthony, they named the river the San Antonio River. Years later, when the city was built, it took the same name as the river.

There's even a big statue of the saint along the riverwalk. I find it slightly amusing that Saint Anthony is the patron saint of lost things. Those who know me well, know how easily I lose my keys... my camera... my mind... But Saint Anthony died in the year 1231. I don't know much about him - but if he believed in Christ, trusting Him with his salvation and life, Anthony of Padua is with our Lord in heaven right now. Unable to help me (or anyone else) find something that is lost. And certainly unable to hear or answer any prayers. So there's no point in praying to him. But our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ, always has open ears to hear our prayers! To help us not only find what is lost - but find WHO is lost. And Jesus is constantly searching out the lost to bring them to Him for peace, hope and salvation. If you are lost, unsure of where you will spend eternity, head over to this website to learn more about the One who gave His life so that you could be found.

Back to the river... Faith had a blast jumping and bouncing around on her Daddy's lap!

And Nathan loved sitting with Gramma up front,
looking out all all the things and people to see!

After our boat tour, it was time to walk back to
the restaurant for a yummy dinner with Gramma!
