Making An Easter Snack

Easter week, this past year, the kids made an Easter snack - resurrection rolls. We made them last year, too. It's pretty simple recipe, to tell a pretty extraordinary story.

First, we rolled out pillsbury crescent dough.

Then we took a large marshmallow and covered it in melted butter. We talked about how Jesus died for our sins and his friends put special oils all over his body.

Then we rolled our marshmallow "Jesus" in cinnamon & sugar
and talked about the spices Jesus' friends used to bury Him.

Next, we rolled our marshmallow in the dough and pinched the edges to seal them.
And we talked about how Jesus was put in a tomb, a large stone rolled to seal Him in.

Then it was time to bake our snacks.

The kids watched in anticipation, what would happen to the marshmallow??

And Ruth?? She just took a little nap... hehe

When our snacks came out, it was time to enjoy them.
We opened one up to discover... nothing!
The marshmallow disappeared, just like Jesus rose from the grave.

We talked about how Jesus died for our sins and God raised Him up again so that we could go to heaven one day. We talked about how Jesus is our friend and loves us a lot. The kids get it, on a very very simple level. As Nathan ate his treat, he kept point to the hole inside and saying, "Momma, look, Jesus alive." After naps, when he had a 2nd treat, again he was excited to share, "Momma! Jesus no here. In heaven."

Little by little, they're learning to love Jesus and trust Him :)
