Birthday Brownies

Friday Nathan helped me make some brownies for his birthday. Since we'd already celebrated his birthday 6 days ago, with an ice cream cake, we needed something for his actual birthday. Brownies would be just right - so we made a pan of birthday brownies.

I taught Nathan how to make brownies from scratch.

Step #1: Open the bag and pour in the mix. Ok, so maybe not totally from scratch... :)

Step 2: Add the eggs, oil & water.

Step 3: Mix it all up really good - stick out your tongue to help make it easier work.

Step 4: When you think Mom's not looking, steal a taste... just to be sure it's safe for other's to eat later

Step 5: Smile at Mom as though nothing happened - no, you didn't just steal a lick off the spoon and stick it back in the batter - and there's no evidence to ever to prove you did, even if you had!

Step 6: After the brownies are in the oven, lick the bowl clean, with permission from Mom.

Step 7: Later that evening, after dinner, sit with your family to enjoy your birthday brownies!

Step 8: Let your family sing Happy Birthday to you, while your drool over the pan of brownies (and sit in awe of the flickering candle).

Step 9: When you can't blow out your candle, let Daddy try to teach you in silly ways

Step 10: If you still don't catch on, let Daddy help you blow the candle out.

Step 11: Enjoy the yummy, gooey, chocolately birthday brownies!

Step 12: Be sure it comes with a side of left-over ice cream cake!
