There are butterflies EVERYWHERE. At any given time, there are at least half a dozen - often more - in just our backyard (which is super teeny tiny). I'd love to catch a photo with them all - but they're never close enough to each other, and if I take a wider shot, you can't tell where they all are - they're pretty small butterflies. But they are constantly fluttering around our backyard - it's neat. Anyone know what kind of butterflies they are?? I can't get anywhere with online searches... there's abotatical garden in town that supposedly is flooded with butterflies in early fall - gotta go there! Maybe I'll learn what these little guys are called... Also, we caught a caterpillar the other day, Friday he spun himself into a cocoon - can't wait to see him hatch and see if he turns into one of these butterflies. But that's all for another post...
Then there are the lizards... I know there were lots in VA & SC, too. But I see them more often here - at least one every other day I'll spot one or two on the outside of our house. Some are bigger than others, this little guy is pretty small. But cute - don't you think??
I spotted this guy on our fence... and tried to catch him. Apparently I'm not the only one whose tried to catch him... his tail is still growing back from the past human or animal that tried to snag him. But how cool is it that he can blow his throat up like a balloon?? Anyone know what kind of lizard this is?

Speaking of things on the side of the house... there are these really gross, ugly bug carcasses. They were there when we moved in - there's nothing alive inside... it was either eaten, or hatched from it's own skin? Ew. They're really ugly. Wonder what they are... the photo doesn't do their grossness justice.
Unlike that gross thing above, there's another much more delightful and larger creepy-crawlie bug in San Antonio - and I managed to catch it on camera, too. It's the Cutie-Bug:
There are lots of bugs and creepy crawlies in our new town. But you know the one thing that bugs me the most?? Being so far from family & friends! So you should all come visit us! And, as a souvenir, you can take home a butterfly... or an ugly bug carcass... or a skink. But the cutie-bugs... they have to stay ;-)

We used to have a TON of those locus shells on our trees when I lived in Oklahoma! Must be something about the west!
